There
are several ways to submit your website to search
engines like submitting your URL directly, or
using automated software for search engine submission.
However,
not all search engines accept free URL submissions,
and more and more search engines have become critical
of automated submission software. With a lot of
submissions, whether it's a manual or automated
submission, you will have to provide some information
about your website. Although automated tools can
be useful, submitting your URL by hand is the
best option. This way you will be sure to complete
all required fields, and provide all information
necessary to achieve best possible results for
your site.
Submitting
your Website for Free:
We
have included a list of the major search engines
where you can manually submit your website. When
you follow the link Search
Engines Worldwide you'll find many search
engines and directories where you can manually
submit your URL, including the top 50 search engines
worldwide.
Paid
Inclusion:
Paid
inclusion programs guarantee your site will be
listed in the search engines within one day to
a week. While it is an easy way to get listed,
generally I am against paid inclusion as it's
often expensive and although you may get listed,
I believe your can achieve better ranking when
doing it manually. If you get listed, for example,
on page 25, your site still won't generate a lot
of traffic, and you're still not visible on the
internet.
Also,
you need to remember that if you don't do your
homework when building your website to ensure
that you have a "search engine friendly"
site with a good linking strategy then your website
probably won't rank high in the search engines
You'll just waste your money using a Paid Inclusion
Service and wonder why your site does not perform
well despite the money you paid.

Automated
Submission Tools:
There
are quite a few free automated submission tools
out there that will make submission to search
engines easy and will enable you to submit your
pages to hundreds of search engines.
You
usually fill out a form with information about
your URL and the tool will take care of submitting
to the engines. In general, using an automated
submission tool won't do any damage, but these
days search engines are getting more and more
critical of automated submission tools. Therefore,
despite the work involved, I still think it's
best to manually submit your website to the most
important search engines (after all, why spend
all that time on a website if no-one is going
to see it!!).
